How else would the Hobbs enjoy the opera? That's right, we went to ghetto opera!! It was actually really awesome. Our in-the-know friends, the Burdicks, clued us in to this free simulcast of Washington National Opera's production of Verdi's La Traviatta. For the season opener, Target paid for the performance to be broadcast from the Kennedy Center to all of us scrubs at the Nationals Ballpark for free! How cool is that?
We enjoyed a world-class performance while eating our favorite Ben's Chili Bowl half-smokes & cheesy chili fries along with a few thousand other people. We had a fantastic view of the jumbo-tron from our super sweet seats near third base. Thankfully, this Italian opera was sub-titled and and was only interrupted by sirens twice. Our friends from the other ward, the Hansons, joined us for the fun. I was actually surprised to really enjoy the performance, especially the 2nd act. As a bonus, Placido Domingo was there (who knew he was the director of the Washington National Opera?). He didn't sing, but it was cool to see him! Anyway, we can't wait to try this again next year...won't you join us?

ReplyDeleteFor being"ghetto" it sounds like a lot of fun and a good dose of culture to me. Opera is always one of those things that we discuss trying out, but have yet to actually do. Maybe this is the appropriate form of initiation.
