Grant's been really sad about school for the last month. At any mention of it, he would cry and say "I don't want to go to school!!" Of course this escalated over the past few days any time the subject came up: FHE, friends asking, school shopping, Father's blessing, etc. So of course, it was more of the same this morning.
So we brought the whole family to the bus stop promptly at 8:10, since the bus was due to arrive at 8:15. Grant was pretty upset by the bus stop and started to cry/whine. This went on for a few minutes as more kids showed up for various buses. Grant's mood slowly improved over the next HOUR as we waited for the bus. The regular kids were picked up, the other two special ed kids were picked up, and after a phone call to transportation (some lame story of delays), we packed everyone up and headed to the mad-house of Weems Elementary school. There was no parking and the halls were packed with parents and kids. School had started twenty minutes earlier.
Thankfully, one of Grant's teachers was waiting for the bus and apologized for the wait. I gave the transportation superintendent a piece of my mind and found Grant's classroom. Infuriatingly, Grant went right in and started doing puzzles with his old friends that he pretended he didn't know last week at the open house. Apparently, the whole "I don't want to go" thing was an act and Grant was just fine with school. We chatted with the teacher and were on our way.
He seemed to have a good day and came home on the bus all smiles. Homework for day one: write your name 3 times, practice counting to 20.
Hooray for Grant. That is great. Today (wednesday) is juliette's first day of preschool She is really excited.
