Corn maze with the BurdicksGrant and Blake love to camp. We've gone about three times this fall. Okay, so technically we haven't really camped overnight every time, but the kids have loved it! The last time, we arrived at Prince William Forest by 5pm, cooked hot dogs for dinner and let the kids hunt bugs. They slept for a few hours while we played Catan and then we headed home around midnight. It was awesome to sleep in our own beds!
Corn Maze
We checked out the corn maze prior to our YW activity a couple weeks ago. It was a blast!! Instead of just wandering forever, this maze had a map and stations through out the maze. You made a rubbing of a portion of the map at each station and it helped you find your way out. As cool as the maze was, Grant and Blake loved the big slide even more!
Food Storage
We canned 400 lbs of wheat, 150 lbs of oats, 40 lbs of macaroni, 50 lbs of sugar and rice, and 150 lbs of black beans. We are really running out of room to store this stuff. Next we've got to update our 72 hour kits.
Apples
Grant especially loved picking apples this year. He was all about climbing into the trees to reach them. As soon as we got home, both boys were demanding apple pies. They were ready to put the apples to good use! Travis appeased them by baking chocolate chip cookies instead. The apples had to wait so we could partake in our next fall tradition:
General Conference
The Van Camps hosted us for a great Sunday Conference/Brunch/Catan/All day party on Sunday. The kids entertained each other all day while we watched conference and played Cities and Knights. Blake found the pond and then the sandbox which led to a muddy mess. Grant followed suit and spent some time collecting leaves as well. Hayden practiced sitting up and playing with toys. Mom practiced winning Catan.
Applesauce & Pie Filling
The Taylors let us pick their trees clean tonight to add to our store of apples from Hartland Orchards. We think we used about two bushels to make applesauce tonight. Tomorrow we'll do another bushel of sauce and hopefully finish up the last half bushel for pie filling on Thursday.
you guys are an inspiration. the applesauce looks great and the food storage is, well, wow! what can I say more. i also love the way you camp and that picture of grant in the apple tree is awesome. the corn maze sounded fun and the conference weekend, well, we need one of those weekend more often, don't you think?

Holy Blog Posting HObbs....Very nice. I loved hearing about your all day conferance Catan marathon. I wish we were there so that we can have a catan day with you. You should play Puerto Rico. It's pretty fun, once you get the hang of it. It's very different...kind of hard, different though. And of course, we love our Ticket to Ride, german edition. I also love your camping idea. I would camp like that. We didn't go at all this year.
