Day 59, Travis the handyman strikes again.

All my posts have a back story. We live in the ghetto. We try to look as non-ghetto as possible, but hey there's only so much we can do. We have an HOA that bugs us to de-ghetto ourselves. One huge project in the de-ghetto-ifying was to repaint all the trim in the front of the house last summer. To do so, we had to remove the doorbell. Of course it broke, so we sported a hole in the wall with wires sticking out for a few weeks. Travis replaced the the crap doorbell last summer with quite a nice doorbell that even lights up. It was fancy.

Then we noticed over Christmas that people would just be standing at our door. Packages would just be left at our doorstep. People would have to call us to let us know they were here. We finally figured out that the doorbell wasn't working. Did it get fixed? You guessed it, it got fixed three months later.

Apparently the wire coming from the bell wasn't long enough to connect to the button. Whatever. It took two trips to the hardware store, a billion obnoxious rings of the bell, and finally Travis sawing out a portion of our door trim to get it working again. So please come ring our doorbell and never mind the gaping hole that Travis assures me can be filled with caulk and the teeny piece of wood that's leftover. And just think, if you come at night you'll have no problem finding the bell, it glows.

P.S. I have to admit that the current fix is better than one of the proposed solutions. One plan was to drill a hole through a screwdriver and hang it from the doorjamb. Then we would make a sign above it that would read: 'to use the doorbell, please use the hanging screwdriver to connect the two wires above'. That would have been awesome. I'm sure glad we chose the awesomer solution of the giant gaping hole.
